Every year, preventable diseases like diarrhoea and pneumonia claim the lives of 2.8 million children across the globe before they reach the age of five. Such deaths can be significantly reduced if children, mothers and caregivers alike are taught to embrace the simple, yet often neglected act of handwashing with soap. High 5 for handwashing unites supporters of child health to champion the adoption of good hygiene habits like handwashing with soap to help more children reach their fifth birthday. Like the simple act of handwashing with soap, the simple act of a high 5 serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of good hygiene in saving lives. Lifebuoy aims to inculcate the healthy habit of handwashing with soap by teaching them the importance of washing their hands with soap at key occasions, before meals and after the restroom.
Lifebuoy reaches out to thousands of children through its handwashing campaign, raising standards of hygiene. These new results show that handwashing programmes have significant positive impact on both the hand washing behaviors and health of a community. Lifebuoy’s handwashing programmes are now being rolled in other cities as well. Unilever brands strive to create a better future every day for consumers across Pakistan.
