Sandstorm (Mulaqat), a short film by Seemab Gul, is one of the top three Oscar-qualifying films that received awards at HollyShorts.
According to the international media, Sandstorm (Mulaqat), Hallelujah, and The Scale were the festival’s top live-action and animated short films, respectively.
One of the producers of the film took it to Instagram to announce this great news:
Mulaqat, directed by Seemab Gul, won at two Academy Award qualifying festivals HollyShorts and Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival in August 2022 which coincidentally is also the month we celebrate the 75th Independence Day of Pakistan.

The short film tells the tale of Zara, a teenage girl who shared an explicit dance video with her online partner, who then starts to blackmail her into meeting him in person. Will Zara yield to this stranger’s mounting pressure or will she liberate herself?

Produced by Seemab Gul and Abid Aziz Merchant in collaboration with Sanat Initiative and Instinct Productions, the cast includes Nabila Khan, Ayesha Shoaib Ahmed, Parizae Fatima, and Hamza Mushtaq.
