The court issued an order on Friday, 22nd March, to wrap up Ali Zafar’s defamation suit against Meesha Shafi by April 15.

The famous singer and actor, Ali Zafar, filed a claim last week to court, in order to seek clearance of his defamation suit against the singer Meesha Shafi in one month.

Ali also filed the defamation suit last year against Meesha, who had blamed him for sexual harassment.

The suit, alleging damages of Rs1 billion, was filed under the Defamation Ordinance 2002. In the notice, Ali claimed that Meesha spoilt his reputation through fake allegations of sexual harassment.

In his claim for early clearance of the case, Zafar appealed that Meesha along with her lawyers should not be granted any more postponements which misuse the court’s valuable time. Moreover, he appealed the court to fix on the case within the next 30 days as it had already been approximately a year since the beginning of the case.

In April 2018, Meesha took Twitter to accuse of Zafar for physically harassing her on “more than one occasion”.

Her proclamation:

“This happened to me despite the fact I am an empowered, accomplished woman who is known for speaking her mind!”

Ali Zafar, on the contrary, firmly” denied the allegations and endangered to take legal action against the actress.

Ali’s statement on Twitter:

“I intend to take this through the courts of law, and to address this professionally and seriously rather than to lodge any accusations here.”
