The premier Pakistani high street and fabric brand Kayseria showcased its latest Pret Collection for Pre Fall 2014, called the Delhi Pop Collection,” exclusively at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi on 10th September 2014, as part of the Aalishan Lifestyle Pakistan Exhibition 2014.
The entire fashion show paid tribute to the late pop legend Nazia Hassan; her songs were freshly remixed to be the show’s soundtrack and the new collection reflected the quirkiness and pop-disco culture of the ’80s of which Nazia was one of the most prominent figures in Asia.
Nazia Hassan (1965-2000), a timeless icon, is the perfect fit for being the inspiration behind a peace initiative between Pakistan and India. Her everlasting youthful personality is admired and respected on both sides of the border; and her body of work is still celebrated throughout the Subcontinent. Her first album, “Disco Deewanay” was launched in collaboration with the great Indian music producer Biddu Appaiah and was a chart topper in 14 countries and the most successful Asian pop album of its time. Nazia’s songs also featured prominently on the soundtracks of several Bollywood movies. Along with her brother Zoheb, she went on to sell 60 million records worldwide.
Kayseria’s “Delhi Pop Collection,” has encapsulated the fervour and whimsy of the ’80s era and the “Disco Deewanay” cult that Nazia and Zoheb introduced. The ensembles were specifically designed to reflect the pop era heralded by Nazia; the sterling silver gold plated jewellery worn by the models was from the recently launched Kayseria Fine Jewels collection. The concept behind the collection was to further the idea that healthy collaborative work between Pakistan and India – just as that of Nazia and Zoheb with Biddu – is conducive towards a peaceful, harmonious future. The collection was on display at the Lifestyle Pakistan Exhibition from 11th – 14th September 2014.
